Conception of the construction experiment and the usage programme

Location

The pavilion of the Volksbühne and its environs will be enveloped by a platform superstructure . For two weeks it will be a model location with social decision-making participation and spatial-constructive appropriation.

Due to the open-usage constructive structure interpretative situations are created that offer space for unplanned and spontaneous activities. The reference point, as far as the content is concerned, of this construction experiment will be an exhibition and an event programme on questions of participative architecture and the appropriation of space.

Primary construction structure
The space structure on offer by the project team is a simple plateau that in its outward formation is coupled to participative interventions, changes, appropriations or extensions. It offers the building basics such as floors and ceilings, extension possibilities for further spatial construction elements as well as the necessary technical infrastructure.

Different individuals and initiatives are invited to participate in the construction process, to play the location and to realize their own needs when dealing with the public space and its appropriation.

Extension
For the possible interpretation of the offered plateau, building material, technology and know-how will be made available. Therefore, specific usage zones can be created, functional rooms can be added and ephemeral elements can fill the location.

It cannot be predicted what exactly will be created in these two weeks, how this temporary and self-defined built laboratory will look and what will really take place there.

Programme
The constructive conglomerate will become a temporary discourse room for theories and practical forms of user participation. Exhibition, reading room, video cinema, a citizens' information and advisory office, lectures and small discussion panels as well as a possible "Messe/Fair" for the presentation of related projects will find there place here. There is also space for a garden, an informal and open music club or using it spontaneously for a sun terrace. A shower centre or a communal kitchen can also be created.

On the 28th of June a topping-out ceremony will launch the 2 week programme and the construction experiment.
